Germany is the most populous democracy in the EU and one of the major players in European politics. Nevertheless, German politics with its specific features and complex structures can be a conundrum of historic, cultural, and constitutional peculiarities.

Join us at the University of Würzburg's Institute of Political Science and Sociology to explore in-depth basics and peculiarities of German Politics.

The module course (taught in English) is aimed at higher education students from all over the world and takes place from February 14th to February 18th 2022. It consists of keynotes and workshops from experts on German Politics.

Study Format: Virtual Winter Module Course that will be held exclusively online via Zoom

Scope: Certificate of attendance credited with 5 ECTS
Eligibility: Current higher education students (graduate or undergraduate) neither currently nor previously enrolled at a German University regardless of nationality (Non-German and German)
Program Cost: 142,70 € Tuition Fee (Scholarships available for the 20 first applicants), additional costs for health insurance in Germany may apply
Application Requirements: Completed application form, passport copy (required for enrollment at the University of Würzburg), scans of document(s) confirming your eligibility for higher education, officially certified copies of document(s) confirming your eligibility for higher education (sent via Mail), up to date CV, declaration of health insurance obligation according to § 199a SGB V for the winter semester of 2021/22 (non-EU applicants), copy of your European Health Insurance Card (EU applicants) or copy of your Global Health Insurance Card (GB applicants)

Course Programme

In our winter module course, you will learn about and discuss German Politics within a framework of contemporary history, institutional and comparative perspectives, decision making processes, and Germany’s perspectives on Europe and the world.

By the end of the course, all successful participants will be issued a detailed Certificate of Attendance equivalent to a regular module worth 5 ECTS.

Our first-ever virtual Summer Module Course took place from 19th to 23rd July 2021. 35 students from five continents joined us online for an in-depth look at German Politics.

Students from all over the world took part in the Summer School German Politics 2019 at the Institute of Political Science and Sociology in Würzburg. Between 25th July and 2nd August 2019 a total of 21 students from 15 different countries took part in various seminars and enjoyed the social program in good summer weather.
