Three IPS Students in India
02/12/2016In winter semester 2015/16, Stefanie Bachtin, Lukas Belser, and Jean Christoph Seipel travelled to India. The three students of our Bachelor's programme Political and Social Studies conducted interviews, had background discussions, and took advantage of valuable research opportunities for their theses.
The three students' Bachelor theses focus on India as an Emerging Power and on Indo-Chinese relations. The stay was made possible through the funding initiative A New Passage to India, which is financially supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
In New Delhi, Mangalore and Pondicherry, the students conducted more than 15 interviews at universities, think tanks, embassies and political foundations. They visitied, for instance, Jawaharlal Nehru Unversity in New Delhi and Mangalore University in the state of Karnataka, two of the Institute for Political Science and Sociology’s partner institutions, as well as the Institute for Chinese Studies, the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses and the German Embassy in the Indian capital.
Furthermore, the DAAD scholarship enabled the three Würzburg students to attend several events connected to their subject. They participated in a conference about the relations between India and Myanmar, organised by Heinrich Böll foundation, and attended the launch of Bharat Kamad’s book „Why India is not a great power yet“ where the author and two experts discussed about India’s role in international politics.
In addition to the academic programme, the stay in India offered ample opportunity to experience the cultural diversity of the country. Stefanie, Lukas and Jean conclude: "Our visit to India was a rewarding experience in every respect – with an overwhelming abundance of impressions“.
