Conference 2014: Exploring Emerging India
The India Forum of the Institute for Political Science and Sociology organized the Conference “Exploring Emerging India” on 17 July 2014 at the Frankenwarte in Würzburg.
The Conference looked at India from political, economic, and indological-anthropological perspectives. The different topics included the current elections and Indian Democracy, economic and social developments, Gender, and Indian Foreign Relations.
Würzburg University Vice President Prof. Dr. Barbara Sponholz welcomed the more than 40 participants and Michael Melcher from the Institute for European Studies and International Relations moderated. Visiting Professors from India as well as academics from Würzburg University gave presentations. From the Institute for Political Science and Sociology Prof. Dr. Gisela Müller-Brandeck-Bocquet, PD Dr. Michael Becker, Dr. Matthias Gsänger as well as visiting Professors Prof. Dr. Ummu Salma Bava, Prof. Dr. Aparajita Biswas and Prof. Dr. Valerian Rodrigues spoke. From the field of Economics visiting Professor Prof. Dr. Amitabh Kundu was a guest as well as Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Schömbucher-Kusterer and Dr. Barbara Lotz from the field of Indology (see Conference Program).
Additional participants included representatives from the Würzburg University India Commission Prof. Dr. Jürgen Kreft and Dr. Stephan Schröder-Köhne, as well as many students from the fields of Political Science, Sociology, and Indology.
